Exhibitor space at ShD Scotland, the new materials handling show in Glasgow, is sold out and the exhibition – which takes place at the SECC on 22nd and 23rd April – promises to be well worth a visit.

Launched this year under the title of the leading UK materials handling magazine, ShD: Storage, Handling, Distribution, the exhibition will showcase innovative ideas to help reduce costs and maximise supply chain efficiency. With the added benefit of a live demonstration area, ShD Scotland will be highly informative and extremely time-effective for visitors.

The show will feature a wide range of handling and storage products and services including fork-lift trucks, racking, shelving, palletizers, packaging & labelling machinery, plastic containers, supply chain software, mobile data systems, live storage solutions, traction batteries, automated handling systems, shrink-wrap systems, logistics services, emissions reduction equipment, explosion protection systems, operator training services, industrial doors and heavy plant.

Exhibitors to offer advice and solutions
Visitors to ShD Scotland will be able to take advantage of the considerable know-how on offer from exhibitors who have vast experience in specialist areas of materials handling.

Explosion proof specialist Pyroban, for example, will be urging Scottish businesses – including the distilling, oil, gas and petrochemical industries for which the country is famous – to consider how they manage risk and discuss their operations on Pyroban’s stand, number 8. Rob Vesty, Pyroban’s Customer Services Manager for Scotland explains, “Information regarding safety and company policy is dealt with in the strictest confidence and Pyroban can provide practical and realistic advice and solutions for all types of explosion risk, particularly in the refineries and petrochemical operations.”

Visitors will also be able to see a demonstration of voice picking technology at a fast-paced seminar presented by data capture and voice picking solutions specialist, Psion Teklogix on stand number 35. The session will give visitors the chance to see at first hand the tremendous advantages that voice technology can bring to any logistics operation. Says Duncan Smillie, Managing Director of Psion Teklogix, “The introduction of voice recognition systems that enable warehouse employees to have their eyes and hands free during their daily routine can have a dramatic impact on productivity levels. But it is not only beneficial in an order selection scenario. The system can also be applied to achieve significant efficiencies throughout the entire supply chain operation – from goods-in to put-away, replenishment and even dispatch.”

The Austrian group TGW Logistics (stand number 20) will use the show to promote its brand-new, fully automated depalletising unit, SPLITEX. The product separates each layer and each carton from a pallet load, delivering them to an automated conveyor system which feeds further operations. Separating 35 fully loaded pallets per hour with a very low noise level, SPLITEX can handle packages from 0.5kg through to 35kg. TGW will also be profiling its order picking solutions, including its pick-by-light/put-to-light system, Flash Pick.

Industrial door specialist, Hörmann, will display its new MZ Sentinel door, suitable for a variety of applications, on stand number 29. With a powder-coated surface finish as standard for long-lasting protection, the Sentinel features a variety of reliable locks and two security bolts.

Stand number 19 will showcase LINPAC Storage Systems, one of Europe’s leading suppliers of storage solutions. The company will profile its wide range of racking and shelving products – from simple, adjustable pallet racking and shelving systems through to the most sophisticated multi-tiered picking solutions.

With almost 40 years’ experience in the forklift business, independent dealer Douglas Gillespie Plant, based in Glasgow, will offer unbiased advice to visitors on stand number 39. The firm recently joined forces with Mitsubishi Forklift Trucks to offer its clients direct access to Mitsubishi forklifts and parts in central Scotland. “We will still be able,” stresses DGP's Marketing Manager, Tracey Gillespie, “to supply all types of materials handling equipment – including specialised flameproof forklifts, side-loaders and multi-directionals.” The company operates a team of mobile service engineers throughout the central belt of Scotland, providing 24/7 servicing to ensure maximum productivity for customers.

Exide Technologies (CMP Batteries Ltd) will be exhibiting on stand 11 at the show, where visitors will be able to discuss reducing their carbon footprint and saving on energy costs. The products in Exide’s extensive range of batteries and chargers are now rated on two criteria: energy usage and recyclability. Each unit is rated between one globe for the least efficient and seven globes for the most efficient, allowing customers to make informed choices on the right energy solutions, taking both commercial and environmental impacts into consideration. Elaine McLeod, Marketing Communications Manager of Exide Technologies comments, “Forward-thinking customers realise that, with an informed product choice, a slightly higher capital cost can deliver significantly lower running costs in the long run.”
