Kent Showground to host South East’s brand-new handling show
The Kent Showground at Detling, near Maidstone, will host ShD South East, a brand-new regional materials handling show, on 17th September.

Having enjoyed a successful inaugural show in Scotland, the exhibition’s organiser – Quartz, the name behind the UK’s largest logistics exhibition, IMHX – is now heavily promoting ShD South East to small and medium-sized enterprises in the region that handle goods in any way. Launched under the title of the leading materials handling magazine – ShD: Storage, Handling, Distribution – the event will showcase a diverse range of materials handling equipment and services, with many innovative ideas to help reduce costs and maximise supply chain efficiency.

A visit will definitely be worthwhile

With the added benefit of a live demonstration area, ShD South East promises to be highly informative and extremely time-effective for visitors. In addition, Quartz is pleased to announce that UKWA (the United Kingdom Warehousing Association) will be running a series of seminars throughout the day – further details of these events will follow shortly. Conveniently located on the A249, close to junction 7 of the M20, Kent Showground boasts excellent transport links. Companies exhibiting at the show include fork-lift firms Aisle-Master, Briggs Equipment, Linde, Narrow Aisle, Nissan, Still, Translift and TVH, as well as traction battery specialist, Norco. Visitors with an interest in packaging will be able to talk to packaging specialists FROMM, Schoeller Arca Systems, Easypack and Ranpak. Also present will be shrink-wrap machinery suppliers Shrinkfast and AETNA.

The distribution network PalletForce will be represented, along with emissions reduction solutions provider Envirosafe and explosion protection specialist Pyroban. Other exhibitors include the supply chain software supplier, 3M; mobile data specialists, Belgravium and Psion Teklogix; logistics management solutions provider, Descartes Systems; vacuum lifting specialist, Vaculex; industrial doors supplier, Hormann; mobile weighing specialist, Ravas UK Ltd; automated handling suppliers, KNAPP and TGW; and racking & shelving supplier, Link 51.

Exhibitors to offer advice and solutions

Visitors to ShD South East will be able to take advantage of the considerable know-how on offer from exhibitors who have vast experience in all areas of materials handling.

Explosion proof specialist Pyroban, for example, will be urging businesses to consider how they manage risk and discuss their operations on Pyroban’s stand, number 8. Pyroban’s Rob Vesty explains, “Information regarding safety and company policy is dealt with in the strictest confidence and Pyroban can provide practical and realistic advice and solutions for all types of explosion risk.”

Visitors will also be able to see a demonstration of voice picking technology at a fast-paced seminar presented by data capture and voice picking solutions specialist, Psion Teklogix, on stand number 35. The session will give visitors the chance to see at first hand the tremendous advantages that voice technology can bring to any logistics operation. Says Darrel Williams, Managing Director of Psion Teklogix, “The introduction of voice recognition systems that enable warehouse employees to have their eyes and hands free during their daily routine can have a dramatic impact on productivity levels. But it is not only beneficial in an order selection scenario. The system can also be applied to achieve significant efficiencies throughout the entire supply chain operation – from goods-in to put-away, replenishment and even dispatch.”

Fork-lift manufacturer Linde (stand number 37) will be promoting its range of warehouse and yard trucks, with a special focus on ride-on pallet trucks and 3-wheel electric counterbalance trucks. Featuring ergonomic design for productive operation, the Linde ride-on pallet trucks benefit from an active castor wheel system, providing an optimum combination of stability and grip in all conditions. The highly manoeuvrable 3-wheel electric counterbalance series features a unique suspension system, minimizing vibrations to ensure operator comfort. Powerful AC motors ensure high performance, says Linde, and the trucks boast three braking systems: regenerative electric braking, counter-current braking and failsafe disc brakes.

The Austrian group TGW Logistics (stand number 20) will use the show to promote its brand-new, fully automated depalletising unit, SPLITEX. The product separates each layer and each carton from a pallet load, delivering them to an automated conveyor system which feeds further operations. Separating 35 fully loaded pallets per hour with a very low noise level, SPLITEX can handle packages from 0.5kg through to 35kg. TGW will also be profiling its order picking solutions, including its pick-by-light/put-to-light system, Flash Pick.

Industrial door specialist, Hörmann, will display its new MZ Sentinel door, suitable for a variety of applications, on stand number 28. With a powder-coated surface finish as standard for long-lasting protection, the Sentinel features a variety of reliable locks and two security bolts.
