//Innovation reigns at the Cleaning Show 2011
The organisers of The Cleaning Show 2011, being staged at Birmingham’s NEC on 1-3 March 2011, are rewarding innovation with an expanded and enhanced awards programme at this year’s event. The Innovation Awards 2011 will honour pioneering developments by manufacturers and suppliers to the UK cleaning industry.
Neil Nixon, chair of the judging panel and editor of C&M, said: “One of the limiting factors previously for the Innovation Awards was the number of categories. To better reflect the diversity of products within the cleaning sector, we are more than doubling the number of categories in 2011 - whilst maintaining our commitment to judge all the finalists on site during the first day of the Cleaning Show. The judging panel – which comprises recognised experts from all sectors of the cleaning industry – has been expanded to manage the increase in applications.”
A shortlist of finalists will be compiled in each category by the judges 10 days prior to the show from the products entered into each category. The shortlisted finalists will then be judged at the show and awards will be given to 11 category winners and one overall winner.
This year’s categories are:
- Carpet & upholstery cleaning products/services
- Chemicals and dosing systems
- Eco/green products
- Floor cleaning machines (indoors)
- Floor cleaning machine (outdoors)
- Food hygiene products/services
- Healthcare products/services
- Pressure washers/graffiti removal products/services
- Retail cleaning products/services
- Washroom products/services
- Window cleaning products/services
The deadline for submissions is 16 February 2011, and entry into the awards programme is completely free of charge. Entry is restricted to exhibitors at The Cleaning Show 2011. To enter your product/service please visit: www.cleaningshow.co.uk/innovation.

The organisers are now making the final preparations to ensure that the event lives up to its billing as ‘the cleaning industry’s unmissable event’. And with stand sales still buoyant, the Cleaning Show 2011 looks like being the best ever.
Martin Scott, exhibition sales director, said: “The Cleaning Show 2011 is on course to be bigger and better than ever before, and is expected to attract a record-breaking number of visitors and exhibitors. Even at this late stage, demand for space shows no sign of slowing down. Add to this the recent launch of our Priority Pass scheme – enabling visitors to register online ahead of the event – and the 2011 show looks set to be a tremendous success.”
The Cleaning Show is organised every two years on behalf of the cleaning industry by BCCE Ltd, a company jointly owned by the British Cleaning Council and Quartz Publishing & Exhibitions Ltd, publisher of C&M.
Some 200 exhibitors will be at the 2011 show, with over 70 exhibiting for the first time. In addition to the show itself and the aforementioned Innovation Awards, The Cleaning Show 2011 will feature a brand new Green Zone:
Visitors to the Cleaning Show are increasingly looking for environmentally friendly products and this year the organisers are seeking to help them in their search by creating the Green Zone. The Green Zone will comprise a number of products from different companies, all developed to promote environmentally sensitive cleaning practices. Each exhibit will also be featured in an adjacent, free-to-enter, seminar programme. The previous event’s exit survey highlighted ‘green’ products as a major area of interest for visitors – the Green Zone has been designed meet the requirements of modern product and equipment specifiers, purchasers and users.
